West Hillhurst
West Hillhurst is a northwest Calgary neighbourhood that is located west of Hillhurst, is bisected by Crowchild Trail and is bordered by Hounsfield Heights/Briar Hill and St. Andrews Heights on the north side. Other boundaries are 18 Street W to the east, the Bow River to the south and 28 Street W to the west.
The area of West Hillhurst was mostly developed after 1945, when many of the houses were built as “Victory Homes” for soldiers returning from World War II. A number of these homes are still part of this wonderful neighborhood, however, since 2006, there have been more of these old homes removed and new single family and semi-detached homes built.
In the City of Calgary’s 2016 Census, West Hillhurst had a population of 6449 and 3030 dwellings for residents. There is an active community association, which sponsors seasonal soccer (Spruce Cup Tournament), community clean-up days, plus seasonal events such as “Taste of the Neighborhood”, Spooktacular and Magic Night.
